HELEN PHAM

AED showed me an array of career pathways in healthcare and helped me discover which path was the most suitable for me. With a vibrant community of engaged student leaders, I overcame academic/personal obstacles while being surrounded by hardworking, fun, and intelligent people who inspired me to set my goals to a higher standard. Joining a wide interprofessional network allowed me to mature personally/professionally and gain lifelong friendships along the way.

Throughout my undergraduate career, my involvements in AED helped me give back to the communities that I have embraced. My mindset began to change from "What can this organization do for me?" to "What can I do for them?" Reputable for excellent service and camaraderie, AED is full of unique resources and opportunities to continue these contributions – both within and outside of UCI (e.g. the annual free health fair). It was a privilege to be a part of an esteemed organization that bridges the gap between individuals and the community, all the while of making a huge impact on both.

When facing adversity, my experience with AED has taught me that it’s about being ready for what lies ahead, not about what keeps you from being prepared. Given that the organization has a long history of preparing successful and compassionate healthcare professionals, I feel that I am no different – I’m currently excelling as a PA student at Western University of Health Sciences. The rigorous accelerated nature of the field allows me to have a jumpstart in a meaningful profession that I'm excited to be a part of. The hard work that’s expected from pre-healthcare students is warranted, especially when the reward is this worthwhile. From rushing as a sophomore to matriculating into grad school, AED has given me unfaltering support and cherished memories every step of the way.
